Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN WELLNESS SERVICES HELP ME?

The best way to avoid pelvic floor issues is to have a healthy, balanced pelvic floor. Your core and pelvic floor work together on a regular basis, and are so important for functional movement in our daily life. If you are having trouble using your core or pelvic floor, wellness services are for you. Wellness services can make pregnancy and child birth more comfortable, easier, and reduce the impact of pregnancy on your pelvic floor. Wellness services can also reduce your risk of prolapse, leakage, and pain. Your pelvic floor has so many important jobs on a daily basis. Any woman can benefit from pelvic floor wellness services.

WHAT CONDITIONS DO YOU TREAT?

I treat a variety of conditions including but not limited to:

  • Musculoskeletal pain such as in the pelvic region, low back, hips or abdomen.

  • Pain with activities such as intercourse, pelvic exams, menstrual cycle or lifting.

  • Urinary urgency, frequent voiding, bladder or bowel Incontinence, or constipation.

  • Abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti), pelvic pressure or pelvic organ prolapse.

AREN’T SOME OF THOSE THINGS NORMAL AFTER YOU HAVE A BABY, OR AS YOU AGE?

Although many of these conditions are common, they are NOT normal. Even after you have a baby, as you get older, or after an injury, you can still have a fully functional & healthy pelvic floor.

I DO MY KEGELS, WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

I’m so glad you asked! “Kegels” or pelvic floor contractions, are thought to be a great exercise for every woman to do. This is actually not true for many reasons. Some women have very tight pelvic floor muscles that need help relaxing. Some women have weak pelvic floor muscles that need to be strengthened. Some women have typical muscle length of their pelvic floor, but need to work on how to properly coordinate these muscles. If you are not doing what is needed for your specific body, based off a thorough assessment by a trained specialist, it can create pelvic floor dysfunction, or make your problems worse. In addition to this, most women are not correctly activating their pelvic floor when doing a kegel exercise. Pelvic floor strength is only a small piece of your pelvic floor health.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY PHYSICIAN?

You do not need a referral to begin seeing me for physical therapy or wellness services, as Oklahoma is a state that allows direct access to physical therapy care. If you require physical therapy services longer than 30 days, I will work with you to get a referral from your physician.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Your first appointment includes a review of your medical history, symptoms, & your current lifestyle. I will then perform a hands on assessment looking at flexibility, strength, posture, breathing pattern, and other various tests & observations to determine what can be improved for more balanced health. Treatment will begin at your first appointment. We will make a plan together with goals that are important to you, and you will leave with activities you can start immediately to reach your goals.

DO YOU TAKE MY INSURANCE?

I believe in giving you the highest level of quality care at Bloom Pelvic Health & Wellness, that is specialized to exactly what you need. For this reason, I am out of network with all insurance companies, meaning I do not directly bill your insurance company.

The benefits of this model include:

  • 1-on-1 care with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, at every visit. You get to see the same person, every time.

  • Honest pricing. No surprise bills that we often see with insurance after co-pays, co-insurance & deductibles.

  • Fewer appointments. Because I get to spend more time with you, focused on exactly what you need, without having to worry about any restrictions from insurance or excessive documentation.

  • Preventative care. This model allows you to prevent pelvic health issues, while insurance only helps you in responding to them.

  • No treatment restrictions. Insurance companies have restrictions on what treatments can be performed. These restrictions can limit the quality of care you receive & the ability to reach your goals.

  • Quicker recovery. Without having to get a physician referral, get insurance approval, & wait to see me, you get in faster & improve quicker!

Upon request, I can provide you with a specific receipt you can send to your insurance company to obtain any out of network benefits. If you are hoping to use your insurance benefits, please call your insurance company directly for any requirements they may have for reimbursement.

HOW LONG IS PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY?

Your initial appointment will be 75-90 minutes, and follow up visits 45-60 minutes, based on your specific needs. Your entire length of care will vary widely based on your goals, symptoms, and follow through. We can discuss this in more detail at your evaluation after I assess you specifically.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

You should wear comfortable clothing you can move easily in.

DO YOU ONLY TREAT PELVIC HEALTH?

I have training & experience in many different areas but I specialize in pelvic health & pediatrics. Don’t hesitate to reach out & let’s talk about it!
